Outlook 2007 does not end

Guest

I have installed Beta2 and everytime I use Outlook 2007 and end the program
by closing with X upper right hand corner task manager has a copy running
that does not end.
Subsequent starting makes for multiple tasks running.
Only solution so far has been to force end via task manager to Outlook 2007.
Any idea where to look for this problem?

Are you running any add-ins? Disable them and try again.

Just curious: Disabling which add-in seemed to do the trick?

I have had the problem and sometimes OL 2007 ends and other times it just
doesn't. I do have one add-in and it doesn't matter if it is enabled or
disabled. No pattern to the behavior, but it fails to exit more often than
it actually exits.

One interesting thing: even though I've selected the exit command and the
window closes on the screen, the taskbar icon is there and it switches from
the OL icon to the sending/receiving mail icon AFTER it is supposed to be
exiting. I'd think that after a user gives an exit command the app should
NOT be trying to communicate, assuming that this is what is happening.

That is an option;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Setup-> Send/Receive-> Perform an automatic
send/receive when exiting

Sue, There were several and none of them was of interest and I just deleted
them all! Don't remember which ones assume that if I need it later something
will balk and then we just turn it on again and see what gives.

I've found that there's only one add-in that consistently causes that problem
for me, as well as making it impossible to get 2007 Outlook to work offline
(it attempts domain authentication of my access to the OST, but it can't so
I'm SOL), yet still can't perform its core function within 2007 Outlook: WDS
3.0b2. Oddly enough, when I try to modify what it's indexing, it tells me
that my OST's "not compatible with this version of the Personal Folder
service". Even with a fresh install.

Something I found last night with the WDS 3.0 refresh: When 2007 tells me A)
I have to connect to Exchange at least once before I can use my OST/Cached
mode (which can only be created while online in the first place); or b) My
OST is an incompatible PST, what it's really gone ahead and done is created a
new OST, e.g. "outlook0.ost" which is what's causing the errors. Once I
finish wasting time to get a remote on-line connection with Exchange, F9,
etc. "outlook0.ost" that's incompatible with my original "outlook.ost". When
I get back to the office, it then appears to switch back to "outlook.ost"
effectively locking me out of anything that's was sitting in the
"outlook0.ost".

Maybe it's something about the number 7, but I'm having flashbacks to
Outlook97. To be fair, though, it's not 2007 that's doing this, it's WDS 3.0
that appears to be doing everything but actually indexing my email and
enabling Instant Search. Time for another rollback....

All, since eliminating add ins it seemed better but sometimes the problem of
Outlook not ending still recurred. I did have send/receive on exit active and
have now turned it off and so far so good, but I think only time will tell
here.
Funny part ofthis is I have office 2007 installed at my place of work on my
laptop and never have had this problem! Will advise if this does not cure.

I spoke too soon: with send/reco on exit off problem still is persisting.
Also tried to alter the time beteen mail exchanges for 5 min to 10 and
problem persists. So does anyone have any other ideas what we can look at now?

Hello!

I also have this problem. Outlook does not shut down correctly,
That is an option;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Setup-> Send/Receive-> Perform an automatic
send/receive when exiting

although that checkbox is unchecked.

Any other ideas? Or is this a Beta-version-explicit problem?

I have this perform send/receive on exit unchecked in all my send/receive
groups and it still happens.

It seems that several people now reporting this problem - I have not found a
solution as symptom is not always and so far see nothing that realy makes
much difference.

At the moment I thought maybe some conflict with search so I have disabled
Google Search and insalled MS Beta Search - problem is still there some
times? I'm still scratching my head on this one!
