Outlook 2007 can't send/receive after VISTA upgrade from MSFT 12 J

One of our family PC (HP 81xx series) running VISTA received a flurry of
updates from MSFT on 12, 13, 14 June. This killed inyernet access (via cable
modem on time-warner). Prior to upg, all was a-ok. perfect, then the updates
for WIndows, Security and Office 2007,

After updates, the PC couldn't access internet via Explorer or Outlook 2007.
However, all other pc's in the house laptops, desktop's a couple of mac's
could access with no problems.

So, fo desktop buggered up by MSFT, I was able to back out a number of
updates and get my internet connectivity working for IE v7 and the subsequent
update pushed down ....and ..YES i turned off auto update after the this
happened :)

I've been backing out all the updates starting with most recent and working
back in time. Nothing seems to fix this issue.

Current status:
The desktop in question....
1) can access web via IE 7 or IE 8 (i rolled back to 7 today and it works ok)

but the desktop can't ...
2) connect to my email provider(s). I get the infamouse Send/Receive Errors!

I reconfigured the settings and same error.
I moved the PST file to a new folder, thought that may have been issu so I
moved it back still same issue.
I created new PST, created new email server connection settings, same problem.

Any ideas how to cpontinue to debugging without wiping throwing it out and
replacing with a mac? (and i don't care for mac's only tolerate them because
the kids got them at school :))

The may well be infamous, but unless you spell 'em out - folk around
here are just guessing. Be specific! :)

And... Outlook 2007, but Vista what?

MSFT VISTA Upgrades. over 40 of them were pushed down to this PC on 12 June
through 14 June.

The Desktop using IE 7 or IE 8 can access internet but when I try to
send/receive EMAIL it fails to connect to email hosts.

Yeah, that would make things easier.....here it is...

Task 'mail.'myemail.host.com' - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server.
If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

browsing other postings on this forum, i turned off Norton Firewall email
scanning and it worked, i re-enabled and it still works. Go figure.

This after I backed out all the updates from MSFT since 12 June. I'll
re-intorduce each update from MSFT and see if one of them hangs email again.

i am having the same problem on a Dell Studio running Vista. Suddenly
outlook cannot connect to email services - both godaddy hosted and comcast -
no sending and no receiving. No problem with Internet IE8 - I only have
problems with Outlook 2007. Very upsetting.

i fixed the problem by turning off Trend Micro firewall and virus scan - the
emails started flowing in - and then i turned the security back on - and the
email keeps coming. I read someone else had done the same thing with Norton.
Looks like MSFT has a problem with their upgrades to Vista/Outlook - that
temporarily screws-up Outlook send/receive. Ver frustrating given noone
seems to realize the issue - at the many help lines that I called.....

Are you using a wireless router? Is it Linksys? You may have to adjust the
MTU setting.
