Outlook 2007 Attachment Behavior

When I drag a file to the message field of a NEW email, the file is displayed
as an icon in the message field. When I reply to an email and drag a file to
the message field, the file is displayed in the header attachment field. Why
does it fo that? Can I make it always use the header field?

I believe this behaves differently depending on whether the individual
message is an HTML email vs. Rich Text email vs. Plain Text email.

Yes, change your default message format from RTF to either HTML or Plain
Text. Rich Text Format shouldn't normally be used anyway because only
Outlook understands it. Any other email client, Outlook Express,
Thunderbird, Eudora, Windows Mail, etc., will either show no attachment at
all, or will have an attachment called "Winmail.dat" that cannot be opened.
