Outlook 2003 with Word 2007

Martin Johansen

I now know that Outlook 2003 does not work with Word 2007.

Since I also have Office 2003 can I then also install Word 2003 - or would I
have to uninstall Word 2007?

The usual reccomendation is to install earliest version first.
Multiple versions can exist

I installed Office Home and Student 2007 uninstalling Word, Excel &
PowerPoint 2003. No warning about Outlook. Now I don't have an editor for my
Outlook 2003 signatures.
Do you mean I have to re-install my original Office Professional 2003, than
re-apply Service Pack1 and after re-apply Service Pack2 and all the add-in I
installed in the years?
Thanks Microsoft for protecting customer investments and their time!

Its allways been the case that Outlook requires the same version of Word, if
Word is to be used as the editor
In the case of Outlook 2007 however, it uses a 'stub' of word 2007 as its
editor, but doesnt have the full edit options that would be available if
Word 2007 was installed

It is a "nature' law" or is it written in the American Constitution? Selling
to a previous Office customer, Microsoft should warn out about any problem of
mixing-up different version components. I paid and had some improvements and
some worsening at the same time.

Problem somehow solved! Here is how:
I found how to edit the signatures directly with Word 2007 clicking on the
signature in "Documents and Settings\user\Application
Data\Microsoft\Electronic Signatures", while "Editor Options" in Outlook 2003
showed only a shaded out "Word 2003" as possible editor or offered a text
editor for advanced editing.
After that, Outlokk call directly "Word 2007" for me when I ask for
"advanced editor", while before I was presented with a text editor!
I solved my problem, but Microsoft has still to do something about that for
the common user.

Can’t you edit them in the signature window? What is set as your default

Microsoft should warn out about any problem of
mixing-up different version components.

And they do. Apparently you didn't look. Moreover ten seconds with Google
would have inundated you with warnings about what will be missing if you mix
versions of Outlook and the rest of Office.

Is word set as the HTML editor? That should be why it worked.

It is NOW; apparently the system changed it, because I did nothing except
editing a signature once with Word 2007. Nevertheless what you see in Word
2007 is not always exactly what you see in Oulook 2003 new messages (same
problem with Word 2003)
