I am running windows xp prof. recently upgraded my RAM from 523 to 1gig and
since then my outlook has been eating up 350mb of ram! i even completely
uninstalled and reinstalled outlook 2003 but yet have the same problem. some
times my processes tab in task manager shows that it is using 60mb but the
performance tab shows about 1.1 gig ! and when i shut down outlook it redices
from 1.1gig to to about 435mb. Can some one please tell me how to overcome
this issue.. Thank you. btw. FYI. my pst file is 750mb

it's normal - it takes as much as is available. It should drop to about 40
meg if you minimize - more if you min to tray.

HI Diane,

Well thas the thing, if i minimise it falls to about 7mb in the processes
tab but in the performance tab it yet shows 1.1gig. If i close outlook
completely the 1.1gig falls down to 435 odd mb RAM that tells me that its
eating more memory for some reason.. i have outlook on my desktop that takes
up only 65mb if it is maximised or minimised...

How much ram does the desktop have? Is there a problem with Outlook using
this much (ie, you can't do anything else because of outlook) or does it
just bug you? Which field in the process tab shows 1.1 GB? What is your CPU
usage %?

The desktop has only 512mb. yeah i can feel stuff slowing down when i have
outlook open along with itunes a few IEs and a few visual studios, once i
close outlook they work much faster. The PF usage bar in the performance tab
shows 2.04 gig (i have only 1.2gig) at the moment ! :) and outlook is using
only 23.75mb as seen on the processes tab... CPU usage is 0-5% ..
