Hello All,

Environment:
Windows XP, Office 2003, stand alone machine - All Patches up to date.
Using AVG antivirus scanner - upto date.
ADSL connection connected via a 4 port unmanaged switch.

Issue:
Outlook was working sending and receiving mail until 2 days ago.

What Works:
Receives email from 4 accounts OK.
Internet access OK.

Whats changed - nothing I can think of.

Tried:
Turning off AVG and attempt to send mail - still have problems.
Scanned for virus - nothing
Scanned for trojans - nothing.
Can telnet to port 110 / 25 for all accounts
Nothing in the Event logs - concerning Outlook.

Send email receives the following message:
-----------------------------------------
Task 'mail.domainname.com.au (1) - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) :
'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
-----------------------------------------
Domainname substituted for real domainname.

Only references I can find refer to Outlook 2002.
Not about to hack the registry using a 2002 error reference.

Hopefully Ive supplied enough / all info required.

Anyone have any ideas on the above.

Many Thanks for your help

Hi Elinor,

Resolved the issue.

The ISP changed the POP account for my various email accounts to another
server and the mail flowed, I know the POP is incoming mail, before everyone
points this out, BUT this appears to have also resolved the outgoing mail
issue previously described.
Therefore is there a correlation between a POP server being slow/having
issues (which the ISP agreed they had) and this causing the SMTP to time
out.?
Even if you just SEND mail ?

Interesting Thought.

Any Ideas from anyone please.
