Outlook 2003 "Safe List Only" spam filter doesn't work?

Rick Arends

I have the "Safe List Only" option marked on the junk mail options and I have
a small but accurate safe list put together but junk email still comes
through. Help me please!

I checked the safe list and my name is in there but it is from my home email
address and is totally different. I did not remove it because I can't imagine
it would be any different than any other email address. Am I wrong?

Is your own address on the safe list or in contacts? If so, remove it.

But what about in Contacts, like Diane asked?

I thought I knew what I was doing but my email address is in the "System"
portion of the email addresses. This is a list of all of the users on the LAN
and I can't remove it because it is on the network somewhere so all users can
access the list. My email address is not int the "Contacts" portion. Do you
think this is what is causing the problem?

The "System portion"? Outlook has nothing by that name. Are you referring
to the Global Address List? Are you using an Exchange account?

No. If you had yourself as a contact, then it could cause the issue, but
since you don't, that's not the problem. If you're using an Exchange
account, are you using Cached Exchange mode?

I am sorry for the delay. I was gone for a day. I am not sure what an
Exchange account is. We are only a small business and all of our email goes
through the network computer first and then is distributed to the users. I
assume the list of email addresses that I referred to as "System" is probably
the Global address list. I just discovered there is a service pack three. Do
you think downloading the update might be a good idea.

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. What type of account is listed?

You can't have a Global Address List without having an Exchange server. If
you don't use an Exchange account, what type of account do you use (POP?
IMAP? HTTP?)? If you don't use Exchange, you'll have to define what
"system portion" means to you.

I personally would wait until you've sorted out the problems and can
send/receive mail correctly before installing SP3, but you should install it
eventually, so you can it you wish. I don't think it will address your
particular problem, but it may.
