Outlook 2003 Rich Text is broken!

[Follow-ups to microsoft.public.outlook.interop]
First of all, Rich-Text does not exist in Outlook any more. Any selection of
Rich-Text results in HTML, which looks nothing like Rich-Text. To see REAL

Now, under Options, Mail Format, if you choose to compose messages in HTML,
it ignores the setting under the "Internet Format..." button. The HTML is
encapsulated in "winmail.dat" and EVEN MICROSOFT'S OWN OUTLOOK EXPRESS
CANNOT READ THIS FILE!!!



So, you need to select "compose messages in Rich Text," then click the
"Internet Format..." button, then select "Convert to HTML format." Now
Outlook will send formatted messages as type "text/html" instead of stuffing
them into a non-standard winmail.dat files!

Huh? I send both RTF and HTML distinctly all the time. The only scenario I
know about when HTML is encapsulated in Winmail.dat is when the user is
using a custom form. Since a custom form requires RTF, that fits the
situation.

I don't know what to tell you, it's not broken here. I have a Motion M1400
Tablet PC with Outlook 2003 and Word 2003 for the email editor. I composed
a new message in HTML format, typed some text, went into Ink mode and added
writing, added a small graphic, and sent it to my home email account. I
used Outlook Express 6 to open it and I see all the above items in both the
Preview Pane and in the message when opened. I get NO Winmail.dat. I DO
get a Winmail.dat if I select Rich Text as the message format (an expected
result).

I'm not sure of the cause, but I do know that *some* of my clients have
complained of receiving a winmail.dat file from (with which they don't
know what to do), while others receive the mail messages just fine.
