Had several personal pst's with different names in
outlook in order to keep down the size of the pst's. in
my folder veiw these archive pst's show up but when I
click on them I recieve the following:
This set of folders could not be opened. When I right
click and select close Archive"" I recieve the error "The
operation Failed. An object could not be found"

When right clicking I can select Open another folder\open
another dat file and select any of the archive files I
have but it still will not open. These folders are not
even list in the File\Data File Mnagement so I cnnot
close them there. The pst's are all fine and I have
uninstalled and then reinstalled Outlook 2003 but the
folders are still there. I can creat new personal folders
with the pst's and they do show up and work fine. I WANT
TO GET RID OF THE BROKEN ONES!! Help! anyone have any
ideas?

Thanks

The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a new profile from
scratch, attach your good .PST file to it, and then delete the old profile.

I have about 50 programs attached to that profile! They
would all have to be redone! Maybe it would be easier to
go back to Outlook 2002, and let everyone know that 2003
isn't to great

That's a MAIL profile, not a WINDOWS profile. Totally different.

As Rifleman said, it's your mail profile you'd need to delete, not
Windows...and the "ghost" .PST issue occurred in all previous versions of
Outlook, not just 2003. It's not something that happens constantly, which
is why you probably never ran into it when you were using Outlook 2002.

Your other option for solving this is to edit the registry and delete the
keys that are pointing to the "ghost" .PST files. However, it's not that
easy to figure out which ones are the ghosts and which ones are good, and if
you delete the wrong ones, you'll end up having to redo your profile anyway.
Therefore, it's often easier to just go ahead and create the new profile
instead of messing around in the registry. If you decide you want to try
the registry route, check
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/oltrble.htm#disconnectpst for instructions.
You may need to search your registry for the "Windows Messaging Subsystem"
key described in that article...depending on your Windows version, it may
not be where the article says it is.
