Outlook 2003 Profile Deployment

S

Serafim Mendonca

We are in the middle of a cutover from GroupWise to Exchange/Outlook 2003.

I want the Outlook profiles to be set up in a way that whenever someone logs
into a computer a profile is automatically created for them using their
username as the profile name. If someone else happens to log into the same
computer I want a new profile to automatically be created using their
username as the profile as well. After the profiles are created they should
not be able to be overwritten in case someone adds links to pst's, etc.

Unfortunately, we have already deployed Outlook 2003 so I don't think the
custom installation wizard is an option.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

As long as the users have access to the installation source, you can use the Custom Maintenance Wizard to create and deploy the profile information. And you have the additional option of exporting a .prf file from the CIW or CMW and invoking it either directly or -- better -- using the ImportPRF, FirstRun and First-Run registry values to make it load when Outlook starts. Details in the ORK.

If you have roaming users, you probably will not want to use Cached Exchange mode.
