outlook 2003 - out of memory or system resources error

Outlook uses much memory sometimes over 100,000K. This causes me to get error
messages like "can't open this item. Out of memory or system resources. close
some windows or programs and try again"
The problem causes other programs to crash as well. I must shut down outlook
to regain functionality
I'm using a new toshiba laptop with 1.5 megs of ram. I've repaired and
uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail

Any idea?

dave, thanks for the effort, but it does not seem to apply. i did not
upgrade from 2002 outlook and have not used PGP email encryption. Also the
problem is not related to opening any notes..

any other ideas?
