outlook 2003 newsgroups?

Hi,

I just installed Outlook 2003 ,I have Windows XP with Microsoft Works which
comes with Outlook Express. When I go the "Go" button and click News it
opens up outlook express.does Outlook 2003 when used as a stand alone
program have a built-in news reader?

No, Outlook as always used Outlook Express for his.

Also note that your operating system comes with Internet Explorer and
Outlook Express (so not Works)

Outlook contains no native newsreader code. Instead, it uses whatever the
current default Windows newsreader is. In most cases, this means it uses
Outlook Express, because most people just use what comes with the Operating
System. If you want it to use another newsreader instead, install one, and
set it as the default Windows newsreader. Many newsreaders will allow you
to set them as the default newsreader from an option in their menus
