Outlook 2003 keeps trying to send emails but don't have any to sen

Hi, I have a strange problem which is that my MS Office Outlook 2003 keeps
trying to send emails but I don't have any to send!!!
At the bottom it says Sending 1 of 1,2 or 3 messages!! But there is nothing
to send!! The out box is empty!! The out boxes on Yahoo, Gmail etc are
empty....In fact every folder is empty!!!
I have several email accounts using Outlook but everything seems to be sent
OK and received. Sometimes I get a error code 553...address not verified!! Or
that the server took longer to answer than it should have taken. And these
errors messages are a pain.
I have scanned with my Anti-virus and Anti Spy programs (Spybot, Adaware,
The Anti spy in Zone Alarm and AVG Anti Spy) and some online scanners
(Bitdefender, Windows Onecare, Kaspersky, Pandasoftware) but apart from a few
cookies (which have been deleted) Nothing shows up!!
I am using a Windows Xp Pro Sp2

Dear Kathleen
I'd just like to thank you for the time you have taken to answer this
puzzling problem I had.... Several people said that it was a virus or some
spyware but as I said in my post....nothing showed out of the norm.

This worked a treat but was a little confusing at first until I read that
the message had to also be highlighted in the other window not just the first.
Anyway Just to say thank you very much.

I have a 553 eroor code with Outlook also it say message can not be sent as
it rphost is not in my safe senders list but I have and the email adresses to
the sanders list and still it will not send email out.
can you help.

553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
