Outlook 2003 issue after Windows 2003 SP1 install...

COERCITAS

Hello all,

I was curious to know if anyone already found a fix to this issue :

When you are using Outlook 2003 on a Windows 2003 SP1 box (not the exchange
box, I really mean the outlook box), you can't connect anymore to the
exchange server (which is up to date).

Is there any fix for that ? I tried to deactivate firewall feature but
nothing changes, it still can't connect to the Exchange server. The only way
to fix this seems to be the rollback of Windows 2003 SP1 (?!?)

Can someone provide some input here ?

Regards.

Hello and thanx for replies,

I didn't find anything related to this issue in event log and install is a
fresh one...I could re-install but really doubt it is related.

Is there anything special to do to allow Outlook to reach exchange server if
SP1 is installed on the Outlook side ?

Regards

Its not a scenario that I have tried but I would be looking to the Firewall
and Security Configuration Wizard for clues.

Firewall isn't even enabled but still may take a look.

Is there anyone who was able to install and use outlook on a Windows 2003
SP1 box with an exchange 2003 server ?

There appears to be a limit to the number of shortcuts in 2003. The data is
stored in outlook.xml, if one too many shortcuts are created the subsequent
run of Outlook will truncate the shortcut section of the file. The next exit
will obliterate them. Is there a fix? Does anyone know the max number of
entries?

how many shortcuts do you have before hitting the limit?

Hello Noel and thanx for your replies,

Actually, problem seem tied to RPC security enhancements. Problem is : I
clearly dunno how to modify / tune security behaviour with RPC.

Profile is valid since it works without SP1 or with XP SP2. Problem only
occurs when SP1 is installed on 2003 box.

Regards.
