Outlook 2003 & Error 553

forwhat-itsworth

Last week my email started getting an AT&T message that my account was not
verified. Had this problem before with them when switching over to secured
POP accounts. I called them & verified email address. Still doing it but not
on my other computer using Outlook Express only on the one with Outlook.
Their tech checked all my settings & said it was Outlook thinking there was
an email in the OutBox even when it is empty. He had no suggestions except
to say there must be a corrupted email or fragment in the Outbox I cannot
delete. He said to upgrade to Service Pack 3. I do not understand why AT&T
changes are when it started but it is supposedly my Outlook software. The
553 message says email not verified (when it is) & email server not
responding. This message pops up constantly when I am viewing emails. Very
Annoying. HELP!

AT&T changed nothing. They contract email service out to Yahoo! Mail. Yahoo!
has made several changes in the way that 'smtp.*.yahoo.com' works ("*" can
be either 'att', for "at&t Yahoo! HSI" subscribers, or "mail" for "Yahoo!
Mail Plus" subscribers).

Specifically, when you use <%User_ID-A%@sbcglobal.net> to log in to the
server, you can't send email "FROM: <%User_ID-B%@sbcglobal.net>" without
first verifying <%User_ID-B%@sbcglobal.net> in the
<%User_ID-A%@sbcglobal.net> account. The details are here:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html

BTW, if you learn how to set up MS Outlook Express as a news reader, you
will find specific AT&T help here:

news://news.prodigy.net/sbcglobal.help.tech.email
news://news.prodigy.net/sbcglobal.help.tech.yahoo

And a few other groups, as well. Or use this link to find a specific server
name for your geographic location:

http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=287

This link will explain setting up MS Outlook Express for newsgroup access:

http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=387

When you go to those links, you will be asked for your User_ID, and your
domain (my domain is, 'pacbell.net'; yours may be different). Using the
correct domain for the second link should show you the specific NNTP server
names for your region.
