Outlook 2003 does not let you change a file named outlook.pst in a search
result pane. If I was trying to manage multiple pst files from across
archives and one happens to be named outlook.pst in an unmounted folder, I
cannot change its name to reflect its date or content simply because its
named outlook.pst. The file types restrictions for outlook should only apply
to currently incorporated files (aka mounted to a outlook session on the
machine).

if you are unable to change the filename, it's hooked into your outlook
profile. Close outlook and locate the pst and change the filename. You can
change the display name while the pst in the profile.

I found that a read-only flag was on the file from copying it from a CD.

I did a find on *.pst in a catch all folder. There were many psts' from
time. Others had read-only access but did not show the same behavior as the
one named specifically outlook.pst.

This problem is solved. Thank you for your response.
