Outlook 2003 data file not closed properly error

Clyde Wildes

With Outlook 2003 I am receive the following error the
next time that I open Outlook 2003 after previously
closing when I have a lot (more than 100) items in
my "Deleted Items" folder:

"The data file "Personal Folders" was not closed properly."

The problem is easily recreatable every time that I close
Outlook 2003 and have a lot of items in my "Deleted Items"
folder. This issue did NOT happen with Outlook 2002.

Note: My .pst file is 280MB. I run Matador 3.0.0.573; PGP
8.0.2; Pocket Mirror 3.1.2; TrueSync Plus 3.1.49.1. Here
is a dump of the Outlook 2003 system information:

are you sure it's related to the deleted folder? I get the error everytime I
use Stamps.com software.... so I'm guessing it's the sync software causing
it on your end since it accesses the pst and the dump lists Bluetooth over
and over... PGP shouldn't affect it, not sure on matador.

Diane,

Thanks for your response. It turns out that I had
stamps.com software installed on my Windows XP system
before I upgraded Office XP Pro to Office 2003 Pro. After
the upgrade the "stamps.com Internet Postage" tool was not
in the Tools column (so I missed it in my first post
below). Something went wrong during the upgrade. I re-
installed the stamps.com V3.5 software and the tool now
appears in Outlook.

Alas, the "data file not closed properly..." error still
occurs when I start Outlook after a prior session when my
deleted items folder contains more than 100 items when I
exited. Note: that I have the "Empty the Deleted Items
folder upon exiting." option turned on.

None of this happend in Outlook XP. If the problem is
caused by one of the 5 plug-ins that I have installed it
would sure be nice if someone at Microsoft could figure
out what they did to the plug-in interface that makes a
difference between the two releases. Arrrrgggghhhhh!

Clyde

PS: And Bill thinks that the new search capabilities in
Outlook 2003 are better???? If they just copied Eudora's
search capability they would be much better off.

My problem has been solved. I worked with stamps.com
support to completely uninstall stamps.com software
(including removing the stamps.com key in the registry).
Then they instructed me to install v3.5 again after making
sure that Outlook 2003 was set as the default e-mail
program in the Internet Options.

I do not have any more "not closed properly" messages.
