Outlook 2003 crash, while browsing messages with reading pane

A

astute learner

Hi!
My outlook 2003 crash while browsing messages with reading pane. I have
updated to recent Microsoft updates, but the issue is still there. It is very
easy to recreate as in, I just have to open outlook and click on messages
randomly and after 10-15 clicks, outlook just crashes.
Please let me know if you need more details to help me out.

Thanks,
astute learner

Hi Diane,

The error message is simply,
"Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience."

Will the contents of error report help you?

Thanks

I tried resetting the view, but it didn't help. I am using outlook 2003 for
almost a year now, and am recently facing this problem.

look in the event viewer - just the first few lines where it says xxx caused
a fault in yyy... (or something along those lines).

if you turn off the reading pane and open messages to read, does it work?

That file is used for HTML rendering.

Did you try Detect and Repair? It may not help if the problem is with IE8,
but its should always be the first thing you try. I would probably either
do a repair of IE8 or uninstall it and reinstall it.
