outlook 2003 configuration

in outlook 2003, how do I move the preview pane from the right side to the
bottom like it used to be?

Also, when I run outlook, an outlook icon shows up in my tray on the right.
This is in addition to the outlook shortcut in the left quicklaunch tray,
and the icon in the task bar.

How can I disable outlook from displaying that icon in my tray when running?

thanks!

.
I believe you can drag the preview pane from the left to
the bottom. Very dangerous to have the preview pane open
anyhow.
Also would think you can just right mouse on the icon and
delete it. It will ask if you just want this shortcut
removed and you would say yes. I think that should take
care of that.

Nope, the preview pane won't drag (unless I'm not grabbing it in the right
place.)

And the icon in the right tray has many options which I have tried, none of
which will disable showing an icon in tray when running.

View>Reading Pane>Bottom

I don't think you can. It's function is entirely different than the
shortcut in your Quick Launch bar, so having the icon in both places is not
redundent. You can hide the one in your taskbar some of the time by
right-clicking the one in your systray and choosing "Hide when Minimized".

The Reading Pane location can be by View-> Reading Pane-> Bottom
In contradiction to what's claimed earlier the Reading Pane of Outlook 2003
is very safe to use as it can't execute any scripts (same goes for all
Outlook versions which have installed all security patches)

The icon in the Notification Area can't be removed but when using Windows XP
you can configure the Notification Area options (Customize Notifications) to
always hide it.
