Outlook 2003 and Attachments

Andrew

Running a home/office PC with XP Pro, Outlook 2003. Not running Exchange -
don't need it.

I just set up Outlook 2003 and now I can't open so-called "unsafe"
attachments at all!!!! What in holy heck is the point of this "feature"?
Don't I get some control over it? Am I to be treated as a total idiot? Not
all attachments come from virus senders - and what's more I have a scanner
that scans incoming mail.

Until MS fixes this awful, patronising, "feature" I'm reverting back to OE6
because I simply have to open various attachments, all of which are blocked
by OLK2003, for work reasons.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a fix?

TIA
Andrew

All scripts and executables are blocked by default. For more information and
workaround see;
http://www.sparnaaij.net/faq/blockedattachments.htm

Note that a virusscanner only works after the virus has been detected by the
anti-virus writers and the available update is installed. You are still open
to virusses for the time in between that and the release of the virus.
Blocking scripts and executables will always protect you (on the e-mail
part) even without a virusscanner running. Having them send in a zip-file is
a good practise you should consider.
