outlook 2002 will not load in Vista

G

Golfer

I upgraded to Vista Home Premium and now Outlook XP -2002 will not load, get
the following error message.
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express
4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe
from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update
website."

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Office XP, no luck.
Tried to download IE6 from Microsoft, will not allow to install because
version is older than what is currently on my system.
Anyone else had this problem?
Any solution?
Thanks

I clicked cancel and Outlook 2002 worked but the ultimate problem is that it
doesnt remember passwords at all so you likely will have to upgrade it
anyway.

Are you sure you are using outlook 2002? I have not seen that error message
with Outlook 2002, only outlook 98. However, there are issues using outlook
2002 on vista. Unless you specifically need outlook and want you upgrade to
outlook 2007, I recommend trying windows mail; and the new calendar program
included in vista.

D

Diamontina Cocktail

Thanks but that isn't any help. It confirms what I said - that Outlook 2002
doesn't store passwords.

D

Diamontina Cocktail

I got the same message the first time I tried to use Outlook 2002 on Vista.
I just cancelled it and continued on and all was OK excepting the password
issue.

Correction, Windows will not store Outlook 2002 passwords. The registry setting that Outlook 2002 needs cannot be set in Windows Vista.

Correction - the registry entries for the passwords Outlook 2002 uses do
exist under Vista in the same fashion that they do under XP. They just don't
work.

In any case, what does it matter EXACTLY how Outlook 2002 doesn't remember
its passwords seeing Microsoft wont be fixing it?

So, I just like to have folks get the correct information and not some variation that is not true. As for Microsoft fixing it, Outlook 2002 is out of mainstream support and will only get security fixes in extended support.
