Outlook 2002: Moving Tasks Between Categories

Guest

Hi,

I am trying to Move specific Tasks from one Category to another using
Outlook 2002. When I Move a Task from one Category to another - Outlook only
makes a Copy of that Task in the new Category, it does not actually Move the
Task.

This phenomena happens whether or not I use the Right or Left Mouse Buttons
when dragging a Task to an alternate Category. And after Outlook makes a
Copy of the Task, if I try to delete the original Task in the original
Category - I see that it is also deleted in the new Category (and visa-versa).

There must be a way to Move Tasks (not Copy Tasks) between Categories - but
no amount of searching the KB is turning up the answer.

I Appreciate Your Help

What happens if just remove the original Category after you added the other
Category

Unfortunately, everything is deleted if I remove the original Category after
adding Tasks to the new category.

I think my main problem is that when I Right Click on a Task Item - and then
Drag it to a new Category - Outlook gives me a Contextual Menu Option to
either Move, Copy, or Cancel the operation. When I select the Move option -
Outlook does not Move the task - it makes a Copy of the Task in the new
Destination Category. And then, as I mentioned, if I try to Delete the
Original Task, in the Original Category - Outlook will Delete both Copies of
the Task.

I need to learn how to Move Tasks from one Category to another using by
Dragging them with the Mouse - without having to use the more time consuming
and unintuitive Category Menu Tool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Unfortunately the right click move/copy method doesn't achieve either a copy
or a move, the dialogue is a misnomer as all it achieves is an "add to" and
taking this into account then deleting either of the Tasks will result in
the Task(s) being deleted because in reality it is only one Task that
happens to belong to one or more categories. You might find that instead of
right click and dragging that you just right click and select Categories and
then select/deselect as appropriate. This will work for all Tasks that are
currently highlighted

Thanks Noel All,

Two questions:

1. Do you have any idea why right clicking and selecting Copy or Move does
not seem to work? Is this a known bug - or am I missing something?

2. Do you know if subsequent versions of Outlook (for example Outlook 2003
or Office XP) have this same bug - or is it only found in Outlook 2002?

Thanks for your help.

I suspect that the dialogue is not intended, and yes the problem does exist
in Outlook 2003 (Office XP is Outlook 2002).
