Outlook 2000

Stu Ames

I have three problems w/Outlook 2000:

1. When I start an outgoing email and begin typing the
recipient's name that is in my Address Book or Contacts
List, the name will not complete automatically, requiring
me to type the entire address (I did not have this
problem in Outlook Express from which I upgraded).

2. Sometimes, but not generally, when I tell Outlook
to "Send" it puts the message in the Outbox but does not
send it. When I exit Outlook, I get a message that there
are messages in my Outbox that will not be sent if I
exit. But even if I don't exit, they are never sent.

3. I don't see any way to attach files to my messages.
I can "Insert" the attached file Icon at the beginning of
the message, but there is no option to "Attach".

Any help here will be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. Outlook 2000 has no such feature. Outlook 2002 and higher do.

2. You posted no information on your mail account type, connection type and
Send/Receive settings, so we can't help.

3. Post your mail editor. Each has the Insert... File option in a different
location. Look for it under the Insert option or the Paper Clip icon,
depending on your editor.

Thanks for the reply.

If I am not using any other features of Outlook 2000,
such as Calendar, Notes or Tasks, is there any reason not
to go back to Outlook Express?

If I wanted to keep it, is there a charge to updgrade to
Outlook 2002 and if so, where is the cheapest place to
obtain/download it?

Thanks again.

OE sounds far better suited for your needs. It has been optimized solely for
simple Internet Mail Transports, including dial up connections.
Outlook was designed primarily as the client for Exchange Server and other
proprietary transports. Internet Mail Transports were added late in the
development cycle and were not fully optimized. It certainly was not
designed for dial up users, so configuring those accounts and polling
settings is cumbersome and counterintuitive, although it can certainly be
done.
Yes there is a charge for upgrading. It's a completely new version, not just
a patch.
