outlook 2000 question

I am getting new mail notification and new mail
notification sound but I am not receiving a new e-mail.
This anomoly popped up a few weeks ago. I have not made
any changes to any settings.

Wrong news group; but if you are viewing another's shared calendar, you will
hear the sounds & see the email icon when the system receives updates from
the remote calendar.

If you have a rule which deletes some incoming messages, you'll get the new
mail notification, but it won't appear that you received any new messages.
