Hello

one of my customers is using Outlook 2000 on a Windows XP prof platform. The extend.dat file was infected by a virus and the file was deleted. After updating the the latest patches Outlook has become very slow to start. It starts eventually and works normally

I cannot find to following files extend.dat, outcmd.dat, views.dat or frmcache.dat on the computer

I have repaired and reoinstalled Office 2000, but it does not help

Can anybody please help

What kind of mailconnection are we talking about here? Exchange, POP3, IMAP,
HTTP, other...?
The files you are looking for are hidden files so make sure you include
those during your search.

Slow responses are not always easy to pinpoint or even directly caused by
Outlook. Steps you could take are;
-Keep the pst-file as small as possible
-Compact the pst-file to clear white spaces
-defragment the harddisk (while Outlook is closed)
-rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.old to reset the Toolbar. By default you can
find the file here;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Recreating your mail profile also often helps;
in Control Panel-> Mail (+button Show Profiles when in CW-mode)
