Outlook 2000 hangs when quitting

S

Stephanie

A user in my office has suddenly started having a problem
with Outlook 2000 hanging up indefinitely when she
attempts to quit the program. The message "please wait
while Microsoft Outlook exits" pops up and won't disappear
without going into the task manager and end-tasking
Outlook. I tried running "detect and repair" and it
didn't help. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie.

First off, let's make sure this user is on the latest service pack
for Office 2000 (SP-3). You can get this by visiting
http://office.microsoft.com. Next, please take a look at the following 2
srticles, as they do list some very specific auses of why this might be
happening.

212997 OL2000: (IMO) Quitting Outlook During a Background E-mail Download
Can
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=212997

221201 OL2000: Outlook Will Not Shut Down with WinFax Pro Installed
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=221201

If none of these apply, the please try a new Outlook profile, and starting
Outlook in safe mode. You can create a new Outlook profile by going
through the mail icon in the control panel, and you can start Outlook in
safe mdoe by clicking (Start -> Run -> "outlook /safe" -> OK). If safe
mdoe resolves the issue then look at the add-ins that are installed in
Outlook, to see if one fo them in particular might be the cause.
