Outlook 2000 Distrabution Lists Empty on Import

T

I have 3 users who have new PCs. I exported their address books to
..PST files before giving them new PCs. When I imported the PST to the
address book it made the distrabution list ... but it didn't popluate
any of the members of the group. All they have is a blank DL. What
have I done wrong and how can Import populated DLs?

Thanks

Perhaps you mean you exported their Contacts folders. The Address Book has
no ability to export to a PST. And why would you transfer only their
contacts and not all the other data they had, like mail, calendar, tasks,
and so on?

DLs do not survive exporting or importing. It's one of the reasons "never
export to or import from a pst" has been posted in this newsgroup many times
every single day. If you want to transfer your Contacts folder, create a
new PST (File>New>Outlook Data File). Then select the Contacts folder and
click Edit>Copy to Folder, specifying the new PST as the destination. When
the copy completes, right-click the root of the new PST and choose Close.
Close Outlook. Now you have a PST that is movable.

On the new PC, open Outlook and then open the PST with File>Open>Outlook
Data File. They can then open the Contacts folder in that PST, select all
the data in it with Edit>Copy (or Move) to Folder, specifying the default
Contacts folder as the destination. When the copy completes, they can close
the source PST.
