I have Vista Business and Outlook 2007 (actually Office 2007 to be more
accurate).

When I am at the machine and doing things, all is reasonably OK getting
email through the approximately 27 email accounts I have. The pop3 accounts
seem to take a long time to download or even check when there is no mail to
be had but that isn't the problem. If I go away from the machine for an
extended period - say 30 minutes or so - and forget to shut down Outlook
2007 before I leave, when I come back, nothing will work with internet. The
machine works on its own but that's it. No attempt to make the machine work
with internet works apart from a complete reboot whereupon the machine works
as it always does.

Does anyone know what may be going on here? The XP connected machines are
fine all the time and this machine, prior to being on Vista and having
Office 2007 on it (which upgrade happened within days of each other - vista
first) worked fine with Outlook 2002 never having this problem. So, it seems
to me to be something to do with Outlook 2007 (or Office 2007) rather than
Vista as I never had this sort of lockup using Outlook 2002 and Vista.

Any help appreciated.

What is your send/receive interval? With 27 accounts, I would set it to no less than 15 minutes at least.

OK I was looking at send/receive in the wrong spot and setting it to the max
of 10 minutes and had completely forgotten about the grouped interval which
I had set to 2 minutes for some reason. Reset to 15 minutes now and will be
testing that. Thanks for that tip. I wouldn't have thought of that!

Looks like it could have been it. I reset the grouped interval to 15 minutes
and walked off for about an hour and came back. All OK. Still doesn't
explain why it kills networking entirely, though. Got me there.
