outline view, auto convert format info

i have a rather large file (1000 pages) which I use in outline view. However,
the outline formatting does not get picked up by the programs (e.g.
Mobipocket publisher) for conversion to PocketPC use. Is there some way to
automatically convert the Outline formatting into hard formatting that would
show up correctly in Normal view?
I do not want to use numbering because it takes up too much space on the
pocket PC screen, and use outline down to level 7 or 8. I just want the
indentation, font, bold / italic info to drop down.
When I use the task view to try to change each level manually, something
very curious happens. Word 2003 selects all instances of the chosen level
down to about 1/3 of the file, and leaves the bottom 2/3 unselected, and
unmodified. Seems that there may be some memory problem in Word. The computer
doesn't hang, so I don't think it is a physical lack of memory (1gb SDRAM).
Thanks,

I think you have been using Outline Levels.

Try again using Styles. Use the Heading 1 to 9 series of built-in styles.
These are preset to work correctly with outlining.

You do not have to use Numbering with the Heading styles: you can remove the
numbering if it is there using Format>Styles and Formatting>..>Modify.

Stay away from Format>Bullets and Numbering: that works outside of the style
and won't do what you want.

Then apply the styles consistently throughout the document.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
But what do I do with this huge file?
Is there some <automated> way to convert the current outline levels to the
corresponding styles?

Thanks,

Ira
