Outline numbering

I went to the Shauna Kelly website and used the information there to setup an autonumbering sequence using the Heading Styles. I have a seven-section document, and each section starts with a primary paragraph numbered as follows: "1. Title" and there may be as many as six or seven primary paragraphs in each section. The problem I now have is that the numbering of the Heading 1 style will not reset after the last primary paragraph in a section.

When I set up the autonumbering, all the other Heading styles had a "restart numbering after" selection; however, that option was greyed out for the Heading 1 style.

Is there any way to reset the Heading 1 style numbering back to "1." at the start of new section in a multi-section document?

Try placing your cursor on the second Heading 1 style and
choose Format/Bullets and Numbering and click on "Restart
numbering" on the Outline Numbered tab.

Heading 1 is designed to be the top-level style. If it isn't, then set the
style that is as your top-level style (it doesn't have to be numbered).
Alternatively, use Heading 1 for these "primary paragraphs"; you can modify
the formatting to suit you; they don't have to look like headings.

Suzanne, Thank you for your first suggestion, I do have another level above the "primary paragraph" level; it's the section title itself (duh?), and I can then tell the "primary paragraph" (new Heading 2 style) to renumber after the section title (new Heading 1 style)
I did not understand what your "alternative" fix was, because I was already using the Heading 1 style for the "primary paragraphs." Regardless, your first fix is the one I'll use. Thanks again.
