outgoing messages

Sallie

I have DSL service w/ SBC here in Reno but continue to
use my former ISP as my mail provider. Saturday morning,
I downloaded the most recent "updates" w/ IE and have
since been unable to SEND messages from my outlook acct.
I still am able to RECEIVE messages. Outlook continues
to try to send and I receive message #0800ccc0d.
Suggestions, help, condolences?

Change your SMTP server to the SBC one....your old ISP is blocking
'unauthorized SMTP relay" through their servers, which is a Good Thing
(antispam method). Or, if you really want to keep the existing server, call
your mail host's tech support and ask if you can use their server while 'off
their wire' by authenticating to it (using your POP account ID and password
to authorize you to use their SMTP server).

Note that with more and more ISPs blocking the SMTP port to any but their
own servers, this solution is becoming less and less likely to work. You
need your ISP for your Internet connection, and a local SMPT server won't be
able to connect to the destination SMTP servers through most ISPs anymore.
