Out of memory error

I loaded Access 97 on a new Dell Optiplex GX280 desktop - when I try to open
Access I receive the following errors 1st- Out of memory and 2nd - A system
error has occurred, or there isn't enough free memory to start Microsoft
Access. Closed unneeded programs and try again.

No other programs are open and the computer has 1 gigabyte of memory.

Access 97 works on all of our other computers and there is no need to
upgrade to another version since our database is being replaced in the next
few months - any ideas?

Would you believe the problem is you have *too* much RAM?

Access 97 will not run on a computer with 1 GB
or more of RAM UNLESS you install the latest JET service pack.
