OTHER APPLICATIONS RUNNING?

I GET A MESSAGE THAT SAYS:
THERE ARE OTHER APPICATIONS CURRENTLY USING FEATURES BY
WINDOWS MESSANGER. YOU MUST CLOSE THESE APPLICATIONS
BEFORE YOU CAN EXIT WINDOWS MESSANGER. MAYBE OUTLOOK,
OUTLOOK EXPRESS, MSN EXPLORER, INTERNET EXPLORER.

Why am I getting this all of a sudden...and how do I
fix it? Dont make answer to complicated...I am a novice.

Greetings Janet,

Assuming none of these applications are running when you try to close Windows Messenger, do
you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning"
feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause Windows
Messenger to automatically start. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the
Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open
Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger
(may also be listed as Windows Messenger) and click OK.
