I jumped through Seagate's hoops, got an RMA number, shipped the
drive...

Then I got this: http://tinyurl.com/b28fln3

Has anybody else dealt with the Seagate warranty process?

Seems like the thing might be covered per "Total return
unrepaired quantity = 0".

But I can't figure out what they're going to do next.

whenever I sent one back they immediately replaced it. but HD was
clearly within warranty period.

I had no trouble calling them and talking directly to someone. but
that was circa 2002

try again, let us know how 'recent' events go.

Gave them a call, expecting the worst - and was pleasantly
surprised in spite of the arcane email.

Perfectly-reasonable voice menu with only 3 entries and somebody
answered after a couple of rings.

The deal is that there were no show stoppers and the replacement
drive will ship as soon as the inventory people pick and pack it.

A phone call is the best route as I noticed someone else
recommended. I think they're still confused/messed up in the
Maxtor/Seagate melding. Their support people are next to useless
IME.

Not sure what part you didn't understand, they gave you an RMA number,
so you have return authorization, and it states if Line 5 is greater
than 0, your product isn't covered under warranty. Your Line 5 is 0, so
clearly you have warranty coverage. 0 is not greater than 0.
You would not receive an RMA number if you were not covered under
warranty.

Glad it's good news.
I recently got a new drive from Seagate for one I had that was still
under warranty.It was completely hassle-free.
