OT Query re Nero & CDRW

H

Helen

Not freeware but it comes with some DVD burners...
According to the info below, when one uses Nero to burn a CDRW, it can NEVER be
written to again.
Is this so? Even with CD-RW? If so, this is bunk! Why would one buy CD-RW if it's
'permanent'?

http://www.gustavus.edu/oncampus/computing/infotech/employees/docs/nero.cfm

IMHO Roxio's DirectCD was a better program and I never had any problems with it being
read
by another computer. If NERO requires this specific program to be on every computer
that is
to read the CD, then that's even worse and is info everyone should know BEFORE buying,
imho!

BTW, after Roxio was sold and they jacked around with DirectCD, it isn't the decent
program it
once was. The once free UDF reader has been rendered useless by XP. What does one
do if they
do NOT want the UPgrade?

Sorry for the rant, but I do not like Nero!!

That's wrong - it should just refer to CD-R and not CD-RW.

A UDF reader needed to be installed when using DirectCD burnt CD-RWs too.

So you already knew that DirectCD required a UDF reader to be installed?
What's the problem with Nero requiring that too?

Then don't use it. I don't.

.. . . and is on-topic in the cd groups, e.g.
comp.publish.cdrom.software.

No, the page is poorly worded. It means that you can't /add/ data to a
cd which has been finalized. If it's a cdrw, you can blank it and
start over.

Not correct. Just reformat the CD-RW via InCD.

The problem is that it's incompatible with other UDFs,
the version that works on Windows X systems doesn't
understand the one I have to use on Windows 2000.

BINGO! It seems that more and more THEY are nicking and notching just enough to
prevent anything but THEIR
program to work. If you want to listen to A, then Corp A makes Player A and you MUST
buy Player A from Corp A
to listen to A. Your friend has Player B, ..ooops, too sad. If he wants to listen to
"A" then he MUST BUY player A
from Corp A! Blah blah, blah, blah! When it all comes crashing in.... DOS will
look like the new kid on the block.
I'm reminded of the childhood story about the Tortise and the Hare ... and the
race...and the winner.

BTW, re OP and UDF reader. There's no problem with knowing that it's required....
the PROBLEM is that the
ONE that worked WELL ... is rejected by XP... XP wants the newfangled UPdted thingy
that does NOT WORK
with my CDs. I want to LEAVE ALONE WHAT WORKS! For example: I have a vehicle that
is 23 years old!
It runs really well. I have no desire to get rid of it for some new model. FACT:
the older one has a quality that
is utterly lacking in the MTV generation's absurd obsession with eye and ear candy....
PLANNED OBSOLESENCE!
I'm not so sure there's any planning these days....except more and more deceptions to
separate you from your money.

And none of the new cars will be around and running supberbly twenty-three years from
now! I prefer them to
be plain and dependable than to be bloated fancy-smanchy....all that glitter is mere
manipulation anyway. In essence
a bit dishonest, don't you think? Rhetorical question.

Well one way to find out if this UGLY INTERFACED Nero will REFUSE to write over a
CD-RW is to risk wasting
a CD-RW! I shall find out. And if I finalize this thing and my other computer can't
read it....off comes that trash!

Thanks for the info, opinions, remarks, etc. (I have two different computers with
different OS and I want them to
be on good speaking terms with each other).

I've already done it with no problems. Just open Windows Explorer,
right click on the drive and tell InCD to format the disk.
