[OT] Problems with Tiscali ISP

F

Frank Bohan

After struggling for three days trying to solve what I thought was a problem
with my computer, I have now discovered that all newsgroup messages (for
every group) dated after 20th June are unavailable. A message in
uk.rec.gardening which I eventually found reports that complaints to Tiscali
have been unanswered and it has been impossible to reach their premium rate
help line in India.

I do not know if this has been mentioned here, but I report it in case
anyone else in the group has been tearing his/her hair out.

There is some good news! I have found two free newsservers which carry acf:

dp-news.maxwell.syr.edu (I'm not sure whether posting is allowed on this
one).
aioe.cjb.net (posting is allowed -- regard this post a test).

Will anyone with Tiscali please report their experience. I'm not sure
whether this affects Tiscali UK only, or all Tiscali ISPs.

Several servers in the USA have also been experiencing problems with ng
posts and/or retention. It seems to occur most often when the diddly-squat
destroyers go into high mode with their worms/spies/trojans, etc. Also it
is noticeable when ISPs go into defense mode to ward off these jerks.
Interestingly enough it seems to increase during the summer months. Too
many with too little to do.
