(OT) Free, But Not "Ware"?

Is there a name or names for websites that provide free services for
those that visit them? For example, sites that let you upload a
picture file, crop it, then download the cropped version. Or sites
that do an on-line virus scan of your hard drive. In general, sites
that provide a service for free but without your having to download
any "ware," These sites could be used as a substitute for certain
kinds of freeware.

If I wanted to find sites like these, what sort of search terms would
I put into Google or other search engines?

I assume such sites are off topic in this newsgroup. But are there
any other newsgroups or other discussion forums that would be more
appropriate for the discussion of such websites?

Would there be any interest having a list or webpage of "Priceless
Non-wares" among ACF readers?

C'ya.
