OT: Anyone know anything about BlogMad?

John Latter

I've only been blogging for about 6 weeks and have just signed up with
BlogMad

My acceptance email says:

"BlogMad is allowing early signups for keen users to get ahead on the
system before its official launch. You are now able to invite other
members, gaining an infinite number of credits!

Once launched, you will be able to spend these free credits on getting
huge traffic to your blog instantly!

Please go here to logon and activate your account!

Once you have done that you will be able to email users through the
system, but you can also give people your referral url directly:
http://www.blogmad.net/index.php?ref=b132878f3ae12a9 ! You will get 30
free credits for every signup, which will translate into traffic for
your blog come launch day!"

My first impressions are that I wish I knew what I was doing!

A bit later after joining I clicked on a blog and this bar appeared at
the bottom of my screen with a counter on it - I'm supposed to wait
until it reaches zero and then click on a number to go to the next
blog.

Good grief! Life isn't a rehearsal and I've got better things to waste
my time on - I was thinking of just letting my membership lapse & then
I thought about the bar at the botton of my screen: have BlogMad
installed anything do you think?

I wanna (deletes "kill the bar to bits an' scowl while I'm doing it")
carefully disengage the nice little bar and send it to another caring
home in cyberspace - anyone know how?

The thought of mindlessly watching other peoples blogs for 30 seconds
until the next one appears is mind-boogling - surely people want
volunteeers to visit their sites? (I certainly do so please click on
the link in my signature - else God'll getcha BA-ADD! No pressure,
take your time...)

John;

Just for clarification:

1) This "bar...at the bottom of...screen," Did this show up /outside/
your browser program?

2) Did this "bar" show up only when visiting the blogmad site?

Fwiw, I'd start by going through the usual methods to see if anything
were installed (assuming some flavor of winderz):

- check via control-panel->add/remove programs
- run adaware & spybot (include registry scans w/both)
- browse your C:\, C:\Program Files\, C:\Program Files\Common Files

Let us know,
-Craig
p.s. nice appositives <grin>

Thanks for replying Craig (and I had to look up 'appositive'!), I just
popped back to say the panic is over - you were right in guessing the
baronly appears while I'm still logged in at their site: it hadn't
registered with me that I was still there cos of the shock of seeing
the 'orrible blue bar.

FWIW, BlogMad certainly generates visitors - according to my sitemeter
info - but on the other hand, 'any' visitor is a bit of an event! :)

Still can't think why anyone would want just hits though (rather than
people who might be actually interested in the blog/site).

Thanks again,

Thanks for closing the loop on this John. At least we know it's the
site's behavior and not some new type of malicousness.
