I have this in my Folder Options on the View page. It's down towards the
bottom of the list. If you don't see these choices, perhaps it was
something that got added along the way... I have TweakUI for XP installed.
Maybe your friend does too. If I remember correctly, this option was first
introduced by that particular power toy. Maybe that's why we have these
Folder Options choices and you don't?

TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP. This URL links to the version that
is *only* for XP with SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you do not have SP1, the earlier version can be found at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Sharon..........
It shows up as page "399" on this table of contents.
Managing pairs of web pages and folders
www.microsoft.com/mspress/books/toc/5206.asp

Thanks. I have that book and yes, it does show it as a "new feature" on
that page. This has come up before that someone didn't have these choices
in Folder Options. Unfortunately, I don't remember the "why" and how it got
fixed.

TweakUI is where this feature originated. I remember using the settings
under Win98 and WinME. Like a few other TweakUI features it was brought
into the operating system.

So what else could one try to get these choices back in Folder Options?
Hmmm.... maybe setting Internet Explorer as the default browser is
necessary? Meanwhile, I'll try to track down that thread via Google
Groups. It was in windowsxp.basics or windowsxp.customize and Doug Knox
participated in the thread as well. If I find anything, I'll post back.

Hi Sharon

I can see that I have Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) installed.
Also I do have **a** TweakUI PowerToy installed *but* I'm not sure if
it is the right one!!!

It shows as TweakUI for XP and is 0,20MB in the Add/Remove window
and the version is 2.00.1.0

But I find (in my archives) a setup program that is 563Kb while the
same downloaded TweakUIPowerToySetup.exe is only 147Kb.

Does a that 563Kb installation program means anything to you?

Sharon F.
When we download these TweakUI should we do the same
process that we use for update downloads? Logoff/login
etc. I guess it is just the safe thing to do.

What are you doing working on Jan 1?
Watching the football games? The segments of the Rose
parade were good this morning...wish they would 'really'
broadcast the parade.

Den, someone pointed out in a response that didn't get tied to this thread
that according to the book "Windows XP -- Inside Out," this is a standard
option in XP - one of the new features. However, I remember someone else
having this missing but don't remember how it was resolved or if it was
ever resolved. I'm searching the GoogleGroups archived for this old thread.
If I find it, I'll post back whether we found a solution or not.

Trivia: The feature itself did originate in an earlier version of TweakUI
but was incorporated into Windows XP.

More Trivia: "NoFileFolderConnection" is the registry setting that controls
this. It is in this section:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Type: REG_DWORD, 0 is default setting. A setting of 1 disables the
connection between the file and folder.

There are tweaking programs besides TweakUI that can alter this setting.
(To answer another question of yours, TweakUI is one of several power toys
-- so if you have TweakUI, you have at least one power toy installed.)

Something to try in the meantime: If it isn't already, set IE as your
default browser and try Reset Web Settings button.

This is related to an installation of Office XP. If Office XP is not installed, you won't see this option. The same applies to Office 2003.

Thanks for your help Doug.
The solution was not obvious & I could have search like crazy to find
what was not a problem in XP

Also very kind of all of you who gave their opinion.

Many thanks, Doug. Couldn't find that thread after searching in Google for
over 30 minutes. I remembered that we had compared notes about what we had
installed/not installed the last time that this came up but that was all.
Making a note now so that I don't forget again. ;)
