Opening Excel

When I open Excel 2007 it opens Book 1, and one of my saved files, . I
cannot find how to keep the saved file from opening. Before the files open I
get the following message: "The file you are trying to open, 'WP_CONVE.EXE',
is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that
the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the
file. Do you want to open the file now?" If I say yes or if I say no both
files still open.

This might be a wild goose chase, but it sounds as if you elected to open
specific files on starting Excel. Click on the round button, Excel Options,
Advanced, scroll all the way down to General, an see whether you have ticked
the option, "On Startup, open all files in". If so, untick or alter this
option
