Opening attachments

When I receive Excel or Word or Project files as attachments to emails,
clicking on the attachment launches the application and I can view and save
the documents. However, with Powerpoint the attachments are opened with
PowerPoint Viewer and I can't save or edit the document. What is the Viewer?
Do I need it? Can I get rid of it? Why don't the attachments work the same
way as Excel or Word etc.
I am running MS Office Pro 2007. Any ideas welcomed.

Sounds like the standalone viewer is the default app for opening PPT files.
What happens if you save the PPT to your hard drive then double click on it
to open it? Does it open in PowerPoint or in the PowerPoint Viewer?

Yes, right on!

Changed to default app which was PP Viewer and everything OK.

Thanks

How do I change the default from viewer to normal powerpoint?

That's a Windows Folder Options setting. Control Panel's Folder Options
applet will allow you to change the default program associated with
Powerpoint files. Do you have a Powerpoint viewer installed?
