Opening a CD photos attachment to an email

I have downloaded an attachment of my niece's photos, but now I cannot open
it. The message says, " winmail.dat (7.8MB) is not a valid win32
application" but of course I don't understand what that means nor how to
overcome it. Can anyone help please? I think she has sent me the photos
on a CD.

Auntie

Get hold of your niece and ask her to email the photos again.

This time send in "Plain Text" rather than in RTF format.

And no.........you cannot email a CD over the internet.

A CD is a physical disk and will not fit through the phone lines.
