opened thumbnail formatting

My website is set up so that thumbnailed pictures open up into the default
frame. As it currently works, all pictures are displayed at the top left of
the frame with a white background. Can I set it up so they are displayed
centered in the frame with a black background?

The photogallery component is very weak ... as you have just found out. Read
this page for alternatives:

Your larger images are not opening within a 'frame'. They aren't even
opening with an actual page. If you want them on a real page you will have
to make that page and put the larger version on it ... then link to that
page from the thumbnail.

Its not a frame its a browser window...no you can't change that.

Create a page for each big picture, then link the thumbs to each page..this
way you can control what the big picture page looks like.
