opened emails

I use Charter as my email provider and Windows Mail. Why can I open my
email at home in my Windows Mail to read my email, but when I am elsewhere
and got to Charter.net to check my email, the meassages that I've opened at
home are no longer visible. If I open and read mail while away from my
computer by signing in at charter.net I can read my email, but when I return
home, the email that I read when I was away is avaiable to read at home. ??
Is there a way that I can get to my opened emails when I am away from my
home computer??

Thanks!

In WM, go to tools menu>accounts>select your charter.net account>properties
button>advanced tab, select leave a copy of messages on the server, also set
a sensible number of days to delete messages from the server>apply?OK. based
on your usage at home and away, or your server mailbox will fill up and
eventually refuse new messages.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before

We have just had to undertake a "Destructive Restoration" on our computer -
i.e take it rightback to day one and re-install everything!!

Previously, our emails would be automatically transferred from "Orange" web
mail into Windows Mail. So far this has not happened. What must we do to set
this up.
Any advise much appreciated

Check the website for your ISP. The settings you need to set are the same
as for Outlook Express.

Donna, this is because POP mail clients, by default, download messages from
the mail server, and at the end of the download, *delete* them from the
server.

So you don't see downloaded messages because they have been deleted from the
server.

This is normal practice, and keeps your server space from filling.

There are always two "advanced" settings for this. The first is "leave
messages on the server" and the second is "for "X" days".

Have you looked on your mail provider's website for the instructions
on how to set up an email account?
