"Open in new window"/shift+left mouse click not functioning

Can't open a new window by either the shift+left mouse
click or the "open in new window" menu. and opening a new
window via a link is also out. Am posting this using
Mozzila. Also the connection icon went missing at the same
time. And no, clicking the "show icon in notification area
when connected" box is checked. Tried to reinstall IE6 but
that failed to solve anything. Any help?
