open access in office access not access for windows

I created a database with Access 2000 and then transferred the file to my
home computer which uses Access 2003. Now when I open the database I cannot
open any of the reports using the switchboard and there are no options to
open in the tool bar. The file opens in "Microsoft Access for Windows". If I
right click on the database file then click on "Open With" I have two options
to open the file either "Microsoft Office Access" or "Microsoft Access for
Windows". If I open the file in office access the switchboard then works fine
and all my forms and reports run as I designed them.
My question is can someone tell me how I can get the database file to open
all the time in Microsoft access and not Microsoft Access for windows? I
would like to just be able to click on the icon and have the file open
without having to right click and choose what to open it with. Please let me
know the steps I would have to take to get my file to always open in
Microsoft office Access
Thank you

Go to the subdirectory that you have your database files. Right-click on any
Access database file. Choose Open With. A list of selections should appear.
Select the one that you want to use. Any Access database should default to
the choice you make.

Ok I am not following you, I am not that up on terminology and locations of
stuff as I am kind of new to all of this.
Where and what are you talking about with the subdirectory. My data base is
stored in my documents. I tried rght clicking the database file and then
clicked open with then clicked on Office Access. The file opened in Access
and I was able to open the data base window and navigate through the menu and
tool bars. Then I closed the file and when I reopened it I was again in
Access for Windows and could not get into the data base window or any of the
tool or menu bars. Also when I try to run a report I get a message that
access encountered a problem and must shut down. Please give me a little more
explination
Thank you

Sorry, been too long since I've had to do this. I did a shortcut, which did
not set you up to always have that program open that file. Hopefully, these
new instructions will do that.

1) Go to My Documents
2) Right-click on an Access database file
3) Choose "Open With." Do NOT choose "Open." "Open With" should be about
the fourth selection down the list
4) A list of selections should appear. Select "Choose Program . . ."
5) Click on small square (to put a checkmark into it) where it says "Always
use the selected program to open this kind of file"
6) Click on "Microsoft Office Access"
7) Click on [OK] at bottom of window

Once you have done this, whenever you click on your database file it should
open with Microsoft Office Access.

Thank you very much.
I followed the instructions and when I reopened the database it opened in
Office access instead of Windows office. My reports open fine and I am able
to make entries in the forms section.

Thanks again for all your help. I just don't believe I missed that option. I
was even at that page to select programs a couple of times. It's amazing what
you can miss once you get frustrated.

Thanks again for the help

Used to have to use this technique a lot in the old days, back before
everything got pretty much standardized. I used to always forget to check
the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and would
have to go back and do it again. This is a good one to use when something
you install has hijacked a file type, and you want to go back to whatever you
had originally. Happens to me most commonly with audio and picture files.

I have one last question to ask you. I went to my book I have "Access 2003
Bible" to try and link my database names and e-mail addresses to my outlook
contacts list I created for the database. However after following the
directions to create a link the addresses data (First and Last name; e-mail)
would not transfer to my contacts list. I would like to be able to do this so
I don't have to retype data into outlook.
If you know how to do this and could explain the procedure to me than I
would be completely finished with the database I created. I know it is
probably a simple step that I am missing but I have been working with so many
expressions and formulas that I am starting to miss things.
If you can't help me that is fine I still appreciate the information you
were able to supply

It's not simple, but it can be done. I used it to make up pocket address
books from CSV files.

You'll find it MUCH easier to import from csv files which you can create by
exporting from Access.

Hi Homer,
I should tell you that I am kind of new to this access stuff. I have been
working on one database file for just under 1 year now. Started last June and
finally got it finished where it works without errors so I really don't know
a whole lot about what you mean by CSV file ( not up on initials and short
cut names). I know I tried to make both an append and an update query to
move the names and addresses to tables I created which would list names by
regions ( I will have address all over the US and Brazil so I divided them in
the database into regions I created). However when I run the either of the
queries I get a response that "zero files are going to be updated which I
take as the queries aren't working the way I need them.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and would be a great
learning experience.
Thanks

If you select the table with the information, then go to File : Export and
select "Text Files" you can save the data. Don't selected Formatted. A
wizard will help you and the defaults should be comma separated and
delimited by double quotes.

Now if you go to Outlook - Addresses you can import the data from this file.
You should see a wizard which will help put the data in the right fields.

Thanks for your input, but I need to find someone that can walk me through
how to have the data transferred automatically. I have a large data base that
is broken down into 5 regions, 4 in the U.S and one in overseas (Brazil) I
also have a contact folder for our group leaders. My data base is set up so I
can print reports for each region and the leaders and I need to be able to
have the e-mail contacts transfer based on criteria I set up.
To do the Export thing I would have to export to all 6 contact lists and I
would then have duplicates in a lot of the lists. I was hopint there would be
a way I could create seperate tables that would be updated by a query for
each region and that would delete dropouts and moves to other lists, and then
link those tables to the appropriate contact list in outlook which would
update automatically.

If you know how this can be done and can walk me through it that would be
great if not I understand some of this stuff can get pretty complicated.
Thanks again and I will wait for your response.
