Open access 97 database in access 2000

I was recently upgraded to Access 2000. My database was created in Access
97. How can I open/modify this database. I receive an error that states:
"Cannot open a database created with a previous version of your application"
I've tried using the help to Convert the data base but the same error
re-appears. I'm fairly new at this Access stuff so any help is greatly
appreciated....

Will the database compile cleanly in Access 97?
If the database has compile errors it may not open in 2000.
I suggest doing a 'compact and repair' in Access 97 before attempting to
open it in 2000.

There is much info available from Microsoft on the internet about converting
97 to 2000. Just Google it.
