Only one drive can exist on cable

Due to a drive failure I added a old Quantum Fireball as a primary
drive and set up the Maxtor as a secondary drive to retreive the data.
Initially this seemed to work, but then I got an error that the Maxtor
had been removed from the system. Now I can only put one drive on the
cable, either the primary or the secondary. When both are on it only
sees the primary. I've tried both cable select and jumper select.

The system board is a Chaintech CT-SKT600 VIA KT600 + VT8237.

Although I can work around using a separate drive controller, any help
appreciated.

Try a new cable.

Those old quantums could be a bit strange about being secondarys,
tho I've never seen that produce that variable result you got, they
normally just arent ever visible, not visible for a whole and then not.

Must be it. if I isolate the quantum & but 2 drives on the other cable
everything is fine.

Yeah, that's what I had to do with mine.

I did however find it would coexist with
something, forget what it was drive model wise.
