Only happened to my computer

My friend sent me an email containing a powerpoint file. I opened it without
a problem. I saved the file in my hard drive. However, when I tried to open
it, it asked me for a password. I changed to ppt but still did not work. I
sent the file to others who had no problem in opening it. I asked them to
send the file back to me but I again could not open it. I saved the file on
a memory disk and tried to open it with a different computer and it worked.

I suspect that the powerpoint software in my computer asked for password
whenever it sees this file. How do I take care of this problem....Help.

If a 2007 file is password protected, the file can be opened in 2003 without
being prompted for the password. PPT 2003 does not understand passwords on
PPTX files and just ignores them.

This could explain why others have no problems opening the file -- if the
original poster is using PPT 2007 and the others are using 2003....

Office 2003. BTW, this happens only to this particular file. I have no
problem with other pointpoint files.

It did not work so I changed to PPT. It still does not work.

Also, FYI, this problem only happens to this file. All other powerpoint
files have no problem.

When this file was sent to me via email the second time, I clicked on the
attachment and I was asked for password again.

If it is password protected, how come other computers do not have the same
problem?

Thanks for showing interest.

My powerpoint version is 2003. I have no idea which version is for the
original file.
Thanks for your response.

Try downloading and installing the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack:

Especially since you had to change the extension to PPT.

It probably worked in Email because your email uses the viewer instead of
the editing version of PowerPoint.

It's also possible it's password protected.
