Got these little beauties on my recent trip to Southern Africa. It's called a Lilac Breasted Roller. The third pic is the same bird in the second pic ten seconds later when it decided to fluff itself up.

Still learning how to use my new Fuji camera. Took so many pics on my two cards that I had to go onto minimum resolution eventually - new camera cards are not easy to find in the middle of nowhere. :D

Ooh Niv, good pics, what a pretty little bird. Is it similar in size to a chaffinch would you say..?

Thanks TC. It is quite a bit bigger than a chaffinch, more like a blackbird in size.

Thank you Niv, my other half was thinking he might be woodpecker-sized, so I guess he is closest! ;) Such beautiful colours, it must have been wonderful to see him for real - and to hear him. :nod:
